In the wake of House of Fraser’s departure from Highcross, a collaborative effort with Hammerson was undertaken to transform their former four‑storey retail space. This ambitious project has culminated in a versatile development that introduces a variety of new retail, leisure and dining establishments, complemented by an expanded rooftop parking facility.
The interior design features two prominent large‑format retail stores, enhancing the shopping experience within the mall. Additionally, a series of new street‑facing dining venues have been introduced, revitalising the previously dormant areas along Shires Lane and the High Street.
This redevelopment strengthens the connection between St Peter’s Square and Leicester’s bustling High Street. The strategic placement and design of the new structures not only draw visitors along this route but also enrich the area with vibrant activity generated by these new uses. The architectural design of the street‑facing units is harmonious with the existing character of the centre, utilising similar materials and design cues. A key focus has been placed on optimising the visibility and accessibility of the shopfronts, encouraging passers‑by to explore the new spaces.
Overall, the project represents a significant intervention, enhancing the urban environment and providing a dynamic mix of uses that cater to the diverse needs of shoppers and visitors, thereby injecting new life into the heart of Leicester’s shopping district.
