We have completed the redevelopment of the former Britvic factory site in Chelmsford, delivering a striking new retail destination for the city. Originally opened in 1955, the factory closed in March 2014, bringing to an end nearly 60 years of drinks production. The new retail scheme provides crucial jobs on a site that employed over 600 people in its heyday. A total of 88,000 sq.ft of new retail warehouse space is anchored by M&S Foodhall and Aldi, with Dunelm, SCS, DFS and Tapi completing the line‑up.
The Clock Tower Retail Park takes its name from the site’s iconic, newly repositioned landmark. The structure has been transformed into a public art feature, with hourly ‘bubble’ light displays that pay tribute to the site’s Britvic heritage. The bubbles reference Britvic’s long-standing connection with the location. Refurbished clock faces and a new mechanism will ensure the clock continues to keep good time for many years to come.
