We’ve now completed the delivery of five new retail units across two distinctive pods at Interchange West Retail Park, Bedford. These pods form a key part of the wider transformation of the park, introducing an enhanced public realm with new landscaping, green walls, play areas and generous seating that creates a more welcoming environment for visitors. The public realm near Unit F has been extended into the car park, supported by a new internal roadway to maintain smooth traffic flow. Two centrally located pods are connected by a pedestrian route that strengthens movement through the site, while pod heights were carefully controlled to preserve views of the existing retail terrace.
Each completed unit features a single‑height shopfront with double doors, unique signage opportunities and a refined material palette of dark and light grey cladding, green walls and green roofs. Vertically and horizontally laid timber battens add warmth and texture, tying the pods into the wider architectural language of the park.
Alongside the pod works, we have also completed the subdivision of several existing units to improve flexibility and broaden the retail offer. A comprehensive façade regeneration strategy is now being rolled out across the park, introducing a more contemporary identity and elevating the overall customer experience. This phased programme is already underway and will continue to refresh key frontages over the coming months.
A number of further exciting developments are in the pipeline, all aimed at maximising the long‑term value of the asset for our client, Legal & General. These initiatives will continue to strengthen Interchange West Retail Park’s position as a vibrant, future‑ready retail destination.
