Urban Edge was asked by NewRiver Retail to develop a brownfield site next to the existing Morrisons foodstore in Canvey Island, Essex. The brief was to create a new out-of-town shopping destination with units tailored to the modern retailer.

In the 1970s, the site housed an oil refinery. However, it was mothballed then decommissioned in 1975  following the oil crisis of 1973-4. The proposed retail park will enhance the area’s visual amenity, provide local economic and employment benefits, and improve amenities for residents and visitors to this popular seaside destination.
