Regeneration of Piccadilly Gardens, a busy public space situated in the heart of the city centre

Legal & General, in collaboration with Manchester City Council, has initiated a comprehensive project aimed at revitalising Piccadilly Gardens, a prominent public space in Manchester. Recognised as a central hub, Piccadilly Gardens is strategically located along the primary pedestrian pathway leading from Piccadilly Station, witnessing weekly footfall of over 300,000 individuals.

The ambitious redevelopment plan proposes the construction of a new pavilion building that will house four family-friendly restaurants, enhancing the culinary offering in the area. Additionally, the project envisions the creation of a novel covered public area, which will serve as a communal gathering space for visitors.

To further beautify the space, the design includes raised lawn sections equipped with integrated lighting and seating solutions, providing a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing environment. The inclusion of ornamental plants will add to the visual appeal of the gardens, while approximately 16,500 sq.ft of new paving will improve accessibility and infrastructure.

With an estimated budget of £10million, the redevelopment of Piccadilly Gardens is not only a significant investment in the city’s landscape but also a catalyst for economic growth. The project is expected to generate over 80 full-time equivalent job opportunities, contributing to the local employment landscape and supporting the community’s economic development.

This comprehensive approach to urban renewal reflects a commitment to enhancing the quality of life in Manchester by creating vibrant, functional and attractive public spaces that cater to the needs of families and individuals, fostering a sense of community and belonging.
