A brand new retail development situated on the site of the former Britvic soft drinks factory

We were asked to develop proposals for a brand new retail park at Westway, Chelmsford, on the site of the former Britvic soft drinks factory.

Originally opened in 1955, the factory closed in March 2014 ending nearly 60 years of drinks production. The new retail development brought crucial jobs to a site that employed over 600 people in its heyday.

Planning permission was granted for the erection of seven A1 retail units; one A1/A3 unit; and three industrial units totalling approximately 160,000 sq.ft, plus car parking, service areas and hard and soft landscaping.  To acknowledge the site’s history, the iconic Clock Tower, a popular local landmark on the city skyline, has been retained in the scheme and features unique lighting designed to mimic the bubbles in a fizzy drink!

Work started in January 2017 and Clock Tower Retail Park opened for trading in December 2017.
